Unseen Parasites

Symptoms : Your betta acts lethargic (lazy), loses color, sometimes loses appetite. He/she begins to act sluggish, clamped fins and is just not quite right. You can find no other signs of disease but you know something is wrong.

Info : These can be introduced by live foods most commonly, but there are many ways these unseen terrors get to our bettas. I have found that these are the most common ailment and are treated the wrong way in most cases.

Treatments : I suggest using Coppersafe in the bettas container. It should clear it right up if it is in fact parasites.

Fish louse

Symptoms : Your betta will scrape itself against objects, clamped fins, visible parasites about 1/4 inch in diameter are visible on it's body.

Treatments : Formalin 3 (Kordon), Permoxyn (Kordon)

Flukes

Symptoms : Your betta will scrape itself against objects, rapid gill movement, mucus covering the gills or body, the gills or fins may be eaten away, the skin may become reddened

Treatments : Formalin 3 (Kordon), Permoxyn (Kordon)
